“All of them have had doubters” The quotation from the book BECOMING that I have read recently really touches the deepest corner of my soul. Frankly speaking, I am the one who is interested in thriller novels that attract me with unpredictable plots, and I could spend all day long just talking about my favorite detective. However, I tell myself that maybe I could learn something new from other genres, and I tried several ones from the “books you must read before you die” collection, but none of them are in English. One day, wandering around VinUni library, I came up with an idea: “Why don’t I take advantage of the rich source of my school?”, and picked BECOMING because of its attractive cover. Surprisingly, this book is not only beautiful on the cover but also from the inside, which completely changes my mind about a memoir. The book is about the story of Michelle Obama- the former First Lady of the United States – the wife of former President Obama, from her childhood to the period after leaving the White House. Why is the title BECOMING? Because it is the journey of “Become me”, “Become us”, and “Become more”. In that journey, Obama is a puzzle that completes her life picture, but what impresses me most is her own mindset, her own career and her own decisions. When many people may think that she is lucky to become the wife of a President, I would say that Obama is fortunate to have her in his life. Michelle is an inspiring model that women would like to follow, a determined, talented and kind-hearted person whose energy could infect others. From her academic achievements and what she has done for society, Michelle shines by herself, not dependent on anybody. In this book, I am impressed by this quotation the most: “All of them have had doubters”. She said that after she received the doubt from her college counselor that Michelle would not be recruited by Princeton – a school in the IVY League. Being doubted, several people give up, but Michelle chose to believe in what she knew about herself and sought help from those who understood her. Finally, she did it. From the story, she realized that many people, even they are leaders, professors, artists and so on, they all have doubters who did not believe in what they could do. However, that is not only their story, that is also ours. We met, and will meet people not trusting us, but what we should do is listening to ourselves and silently proving since, until the end, we live our own life, not the doubters. It is fortunate for me to have a chance to read a great book in a great place- the Rose Garden of VinUni. After reading this sharing, I hope you could become interested in any books that enrich your soul. Immersed in the book, taking in the flowery scent and it is only you in the different reality.
